The Plot

Spoiler Alert: The following section contains a complete plot summary for Fast X (2023), including the ending and major plot twists.

The Sins of the Past

In 2011, Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner orchestrate a daring heist in Rio de Janeiro, stealing a massive vault containing the life savings of the corrupt businessman Hernan Reyes directly from a police station. As they flee through the city towing the vault, Reyes and his son, Dante, pursue them in turreted SUVs. The chase culminates on a bridge where Dom uses the swinging vault as a weapon, knocking Dante’s vehicle off the edge and into the water. While Hernan Reyes is killed in the confrontation, Dante survives, having been legally dead for two minutes before being revived. Consumed by vengeance, Dante spends the next decade studying Dom, planning to exact suffering equal to the loss of his family and fortune.

The Setup in Los Angeles

Ten years later, Dom is living a peaceful life in Los Angeles, teaching his son, Brian "Little B" Marcos, how to drive in his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. They return home for a family barbecue attended by Abuelita Toretto and the crew. During the gathering, Roman Pearce reveals that the Agency has requested him to lead a mission to steal a valuable computer chip from a convoy in Rome. While Roman, Tej Parker, Ramsey, and Han Seoul-Oh depart for the mission, Dom and Letty Ortiz decide to stay behind with Little B.

That night, a wounded Cipher arrives at Dom's doorstep. She reveals that Dante approached her with a partnership offer but ultimately turned her own team against her by holding their families hostage. Having barely escaped the mutiny, she warns Dom that Dante is coming for him. The next morning, Dom and Letty contact Little Nobody, who arrests Cipher. However, Little Nobody confirms that there is no authorized Agency mission in Rome. Realizing Roman and the others have been lured into a trap, Dom and Letty immediately depart to rescue them.

Panic in the Streets of Rome

In Rome, the team intercepts the transport truck, only to discover that the "chip" is actually a massive spherical bomb—a DM-79 sub-nautical neutron mine. Dante, watching from a distance, seals the team inside the truck and remotely activates the weapon. He releases the bomb into the streets, where it rolls destructively through the city like a pinball. Dom arrives just in time to intervene, managing to push the bomb into the Tiber River using his car. The explosion is contained by the water but still causes significant damage to the surrounding area. amid the chaos, Letty is arrested, while Roman, Tej, Han, and Ramsey are forced to flee underground.

Fugitives and Fractured Alliances

Agent Aimes, the new de facto leader of the Agency following Mr. Nobody’s disappearance, declares Dom and his team terrorists responsible for the Rome bombing. He initiates a global manhunt and places a multi-million dollar bounty on their heads. Letty is transported to a blacksite prison, while the rest of the crew escapes to London. Back in Los Angeles, Agency operatives ambush the Toretto home to seize Little B. Mia Toretto fights them off until Jakob Toretto arrives, having been called by Dom. Jakob rescues them and, with Mia's blessing, takes Little B to a secret rendezvous point in Portugal to keep him safe, while Mia leaves to warn Brian O'Conner and ensure his safety.

Dom travels to Naples, where he meets Tess, Mr. Nobody’s daughter. She believes in the team's innocence and uses God's Eye to track Dante to Rio de Janeiro. She warns Dom that Aimes is pursuing him with full force. Dom asks Tess to help free Letty, then heads to Brazil to confront the threat at its source.

Showdown in Rio

In Rio, Dom encounters Dante, who challenges him to a street race. The race includes Dom's old associate Diogo and Isabel Neves, the sister of Dom’s late partner Elena Neves. During the race, Dante plays dirty, triggering explosives attached to the cars. He detonates the bomb on Diogo’s car, killing him instantly. Dom is forced to choose between winning and saving Isabel; he chooses to save her, crashing into Dante’s car to push Isabel to safety. Dante wins the race and taunts Dom before escaping.

Grateful for her rescue, Isabel gives Dom Elena’s old police files on the Reyes family. Following the leads, Dom investigates the old police station where the vault heist originated. He finds Dante’s "vision board," revealing that the villain has been surveilling everyone connected to Dom, including Sean Boswell, Monica Fuentes, Suki, and Magdalene Shaw. Just as he uncovers the extent of the obsession, Dom is apprehended by Aimes.

The Bridge Ambush

While Aimes transports Dom across the same bridge where Hernan Reyes died, their convoy is ambushed by Dante’s mercenaries. Dante kills the guards and attacks Aimes, forcing the agent to un-cuff Dom so they can fight together. During the skirmish, Tess arrives to help but is shot by a sniper. Dante steals the God's Eye device from her and flees, revealing his plan to locate and kidnap Little B in Portugal. Isabel takes the wounded Tess to a hospital, while Aimes, apparently convinced of Dom's innocence, agrees to team up with him to stop Dante.

Desperate Measures

In London, the rest of the team discovers their bank accounts have been drained. They visit Bowie, an old associate of Ramsey’s, hoping for supplies, but he attempts to turn them in for the bounty. Escaping, Han suggests seeking help from Deckard Shaw. When they arrive at Shaw’s hideout, Deckard assumes Han has come for revenge, leading to a fight. Once the misunderstanding is resolved and Agency operatives attack, Shaw helps them fight back but ultimately leaves to protect his mother, Magdalene, after learning she is on Dante’s hit list.

Meanwhile, in a blacksite prison in Antarctica, Tess manages to visit Letty and secretly stabs her, necessitating her transfer to the medical facility. There, Letty finds Cipher receiving treatment. Realizing they are trapped in a remote facility, the two women reluctantly agree to a truce to coordinate their escape.

The Road to Portugal

In Portugal, Jakob and Little B travel in a modified canon car but are soon intercepted by Dante’s henchmen. Dom arrives via a cargo plane, dropping his car onto the highway to join the fray. Dante manages to snatch Little B from Jakob’s vehicle. Realizing the fuel lines on his canon car are jammed and he cannot clear the path for Dom, Jakob sacrifices himself, detonating his car to destroy the swarm of pursuing mercenaries. The explosion clears the way, allowing Dom to pursue Dante.

Betrayal at the Dam

Dom rescues Little B and drives onto a nearby dam, only to be cornered by two drone-operated semi-trucks controlled by Dante. On the ridge above, Roman, Tej, Han, and Ramsey arrive in a plane to provide air support. However, Aimes suddenly shoots the plane down with a rocket launcher, revealing he has been working with Dante since 2011. The plane crashes behind a mountain, leaving the team's fate unknown.

With nowhere to run, Dom drives his Charger off the edge of the dam, sliding down the curvature of the concrete wall to avoid the crushing trucks. He and Little B land safely in the water below. However, Dante reveals that he has rigged the entire dam with explosives. He detonates them, causing a massive collapse of water and debris that engulfs Dom and his son, leaving their survival uncertain.

Resurrections and New Threats

In Antarctica, Letty and Cipher successfully escape the prison facility. As they trek across the frozen landscape, a submarine breaches the ice. The hatch opens to reveal Gisele Yashar, who was presumed dead years prior, waiting for them.

In a mid-credits scene, Luke Hobbs enters an abandoned theater equipped with surveillance gear. A phone rings, and Dante speaks from the other end. He tells Hobbs that while Dom crashed the car, it was Hobbs who pulled the trigger that killed his father, Hernan Reyes. Dante vows that he is coming for Hobbs next. Unfazed, Hobbs crushes the phone in his hand and replies, "I ain't hard to find."
