The Plot

Spoiler Alert: The following section contains a complete plot summary for Fast & Furious 6 (2013), including the ending and major plot twists.

Retirement Interrupted

Following the successful multi-million dollar heist in Rio de Janeiro, Dominic Toretto and his crew of professional criminals have scattered across the globe to live out their retirement in luxury and anonymity. Dominic lives in the Canary Islands with Elena Neves, while his sister Mia Toretto and Brian O'Conner live nearby, raising their newborn son, Jack. Meanwhile, Gisele Yashar and Han Seoul-Oh have begun a life together in Hong Kong, and Roman Pearce and Tej Parker are enjoying a lavish lifestyle fueled by private jets and endless parties. However, their peace is short-lived. DSS agent Luke Hobbs and his new partner, Riley Hicks, are investigating the destruction of a Russian military convoy. The perpetrator is Owen Shaw, a former British SAS Major and special ops soldier who commands a highly efficient crew of mercenaries.

Realizing he cannot catch Shaw alone, Hobbs tracks Dominic down in the Canaries. He persuades Dominic to assist in the manhunt by presenting a recent surveillance photograph of Letty Ortiz, Dominic's former girlfriend who was presumed dead. Hobbs offers a deal: if Dominic and his team help take down Shaw, they will receive full pardons for their past crimes, allowing them to return home to the United States. Driven by the possibility that Letty is alive, Dominic gathers Brian, Han, Gisele, Roman, and Tej. They accept the mission, leaving Mia and Elena behind to care for Jack in safety.

The Trap in London

The team regroups in London, where they are led to Shaw’s suspected hideout. However, the raid turns out to be a calculated trap designed to distract both the crew and the police. While the authorities converge on the empty hideout, Shaw’s team executes a precision heist at a nearby Interpol building. Shaw flees the scene in a custom-built "flip car"—a low-profile ramp vehicle capable of flipping oncoming traffic into the air—detonating his hideout behind him to disable the pursuing police force.

Dominic, Brian, and the rest of the crew engage in a high-speed pursuit through the streets of London. The chase is chaotic, with Shaw's team utilizing their flip cars to cause massive destruction. During the confrontation, Dominic corners Shaw, but is stunned when Letty arrives on the scene as part of Shaw's crew. Without hesitation, she shoots Dominic in the shoulder before escaping with Shaw. Back at their makeshift headquarters, Hobbs reveals the stakes: Shaw is stealing components to build a "Nightshade" device, a piece of tech capable of disabling power in an entire military region, which he intends to sell to the highest bidder. Meanwhile, Shaw investigates the opposing crew and realizes Letty's past relationship with Dominic, though she claims to have no memory of him, suffering from severe amnesia.

Ghosts of the Past

Determined to uncover the truth, the team investigates Shaw’s connections. They discover a link to Arturo Braga, the drug lord Brian and Dominic previously imprisoned. While Tej attends an auction to acquire cars for their next move, Brian decides to return to the United States as a prisoner to extract information directly from Braga. In a tense confrontation inside the prison, Braga reveals that Letty survived the explosion that supposedly killed her. Shaw had gone to the hospital to finish her off but decided to recruit her instead when he discovered she had no memory. With this crucial intelligence, and the aid of a former FBI ally, Brian secures his release and returns to London.

Simultaneously, Dominic tracks Letty down at a street racing gathering. He challenges her to a race, utilizing his superior driving skills to win. Afterward, instead of apprehending her, he hands her the cross necklace she used to wear, hoping it will spark a memory. Letty is conflicted but returns to Shaw. Shaw later confronts Dominic, threatening to hurt his family if he doesn't walk away. Dominic refuses, citing his code of loyalty.

The Tank Assault

Tej tracks Shaw’s next target to a NATO military base in Spain. Shaw’s crew attacks a military convoy on the highway to seize a computer chip, the final component for the Nightshade device. Dominic’s team intercepts them, leading to a destructive battle. Shaw, accompanied by Letty, commandeers a massive tank from the convoy, crushing civilian vehicles along the highway to deter pursuers. Roman attempts to stop the tank using his car as an anchor but finds himself in a precarious position until Brian intervenes.

Brian and Roman manage to flip the tank over, bringing the rampage to a halt. The impact throws Letty from the vehicle, launching her into the air over a deadly drop between highway bridges. Dominic crashes his car into the guardrail, launching himself into mid-air to catch Letty, saving her life. Shaw and his men are subsequently captured by the team and the military.

Leverage and Betrayal

The victory is short-lived. Upon capture, Shaw reveals a devastating trump card: he has sent his henchmen, Vegh and Klaus, to kidnap Mia and Jack in the Canary Islands. He demands his freedom and the computer chip in exchange for their lives. To make matters worse, Riley, Hobbs' partner, reveals herself to be a mole working for Shaw and turns her gun on the team. Forced into a corner, Hobbs releases Shaw. Riley leaves with him, but Letty, swayed by Dominic's actions and her fragmented memories, chooses to stay with Dominic’s crew.

The Runway Chase

Shaw and his crew attempt to escape aboard a massive Antonov An-124 cargo plane taxiing down an exceptionally long runway. Dominic and his team give chase in their vehicles. Dominic, Letty, and Brian drive into the moving aircraft's cargo hold. Brian locates Mia and rescues her, driving a car off the plane to safety. Meanwhile, the rest of the team—Han, Gisele, Roman, and Tej—use harpoons to tether their cars to the plane’s wings and flaps, using the weight of their vehicles to prevent the aircraft from taking off.

A brutal fight ensues both inside and outside the plane. On the exterior, Gisele and Han fight Shaw's henchman, Adolfson. Gisele slips and is left hanging from the back of a vehicle. As Han attempts to pull her up, he is targeted by Adolfson. Seeing this, Gisele sacrifices herself, letting go of Han's hand to fall, shooting Adolfson mid-air to save Han's life. Inside the plane, Letty engages in a fierce brawl with the traitor Riley, eventually killing her with a harpoon gun and sending her flying out the cargo bay door.

The Crash and The Return

As the plane struggles against the tethered cars, it crashes violently into the ground, exploding in a massive fireball. Dominic pursues Shaw, retrieving the computer chip. Shaw is thrown from the crumbling aircraft. As the fuselage is engulfed in flames, Dominic drives a Dodge Charger through the nose of the exploding plane, narrowly escaping death. He reunites with the survivors, handing the chip to Hobbs to secure their amnesty. Hobbs keeps his word, and Elena, now working with the DSS, accepts that Dominic’s heart belongs to Letty.

The crew returns to the United States, gathering at Dominic's old family home in Los Angeles—1327. For the first time in years, they are free. Hobbs and Elena arrive to confirm their pardons are official. Dominic asks Letty if the house feels familiar; she admits it doesn't, but says it feels like home. The "family" sits down for a barbecue lunch. Roman says grace, paying respects to the family members they have lost, including Gisele and Vince, while celebrating the return of Letty. They enjoy their freedom, the company, and the fast cars.

Tokyo Revenge

In a scene foreshadowing future conflict, the story shifts to Tokyo, where Han is participating in a high-speed chase (revisiting the events of his apparent death). A Mercedes-Benz suddenly broadsides Han’s car at an intersection, flipping it over. The driver of the Mercedes steps out and walks casually past the wreckage. He drops Letty’s cross necklace—which Han had possessed—next to the leaking fuel.

As Han’s car explodes in the background, the mysterious driver makes a phone call to Dominic Toretto. He leaves a chilling message: "Dominic Toretto, you don't know me, but you're about to." This man, Deckard Shaw, walks away from the burning wreckage, seeking revenge for his brother Owen.
