The Plot
Tragedy on the Track
In 1989, the racing season culminates in a high-stakes event at the local speedway. Jack Toretto is behind the wheel, supported in the pit crew by his young sons, Dominic and Jakob. During a pit stop, a heated argument breaks out between Dom and the crew of rival racer Kenny Linder, who has been employing dirty tactics throughout the race. As Jack prepares to return to the track, he intervenes, counseling his son to let the anger go, imparting the wisdom that life is not about being the stronger man, but about being the "bigger man." Jack resumes the race, but as he and Linder approach the next lap, Linder’s car aggressively clips Jack’s bumper. The contact sends Jack’s stock car careening into the wall at 120 MPH. The vehicle instantly bursts into flames. Dom attempts to sprint onto the track to save his father but is forcibly held back by Buddy Hubbard, a fellow crew member. Helpless, Dom and Jakob watch their father die in the inferno.
The Quiet Life Interrupted
Decades later, Dominic Toretto has retired from the criminal life, living off the grid on a farm to raise his son, Brian, and be a devoted husband to Letty Ortiz. Their peace is shattered when Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, and Ramsey arrive with urgent news. Mr. Nobody’s plane, which was transporting the cyberterrorist Cipher, was attacked by a rogue agent and crashed in the Montequinto region of Central America. Although Dom initially declines the mission to protect his son’s stability, Letty insists on joining the team, refusing to abandon their allies. Privately, Dom reviews video footage sent by Mr. Nobody and spots a distinct cross necklace on the rogue attacker—identifying him as his estranged brother, Jakob Toretto. Realizing the personal stakes, Dom decides to join the extraction team.
Ambush in Montequinto
Searching the wreckage of Mr. Nobody’s plane in the jungle, the crew discovers part of a device known as Project Aries, a machine capable of hacking into any computer weapons system in the world that runs on code. As they secure the component, they are ambushed by a highly equipped private military force led by Jakob. Jakob successfully steals the device and escapes. The team is forced to navigate a minefield and a collapsing bridge to survive, eventually rendezvousing with Agent Michael Stasiak, who helps transport them to a safe house near the Caspian Sea. Dom and Letty brief the rest of the crew on the gravity of the situation: they are up against Dom’s own blood.
Sins of the Past
Flashbacks reveal the fracture in the Toretto family. A week after Jack’s death in 1989, Kenny Linder appears at the track to pay respects. Jakob confronts him, but it is Dom who snaps when Linder insults the Toretto name. Dom beats Linder nearly to death with a socket wrench, an act that lands him in prison. In 1991, while serving his sentence and working in the prison garage with inmates Leo and Santos, Dom learns that the car Jack drove had a hairline crack in the fuel line—a fault that would turn the car into a bomb. Dom realizes Jakob was the one working under the hood that day. Upon his release, Dom challenges Jakob to a street race with a stipulation: if Jakob loses, he must drive away and never return. Dom wins, and Jakob is exiled from Los Angeles, leaving the family behind.
The Global Hunt
In the present, the team regroups at the Caspian Sea bunker. Mia Toretto arrives, having come out of retirement to help save her brother, despite Dom’s reluctance to endanger her family. The team learns that their old friend Han Lue was working with Mr. Nobody and is connected to Aries. They split up to follow leads: Letty and Mia head to Tokyo to investigate Han’s last known whereabouts; Roman and Tej travel to Cologne, Germany, to recruit Sean Boswell, Twinkie, and Earl Hu, who are testing a rocket-powered Pontiac Fiero. Dom travels to Los Angeles to find Buddy, the only person who took Jakob in after his exile. Buddy reveals that while he tried to care for Jakob, Dom’s rejection stripped the boy of his family. He informs Dom that Jakob is currently in London.
London Calling
In London, Dom reconnects with Magdalene "Queenie" Shaw, who points him toward a high-society gathering hosted by Otto, Jakob’s wealthy financier and partner. Dom confronts Otto and finally comes face-to-face with Jakob. The tension is palpable as Jakob mirrors Dom’s words from their youth, telling him to get in his car and drive away. Otto has Interpol agents arrest Dom, but he is rescued by Leysa, an old acquaintance from the Dominican Republic. She provides him with a weapon linked to Jakob’s biometric prints, allowing them to track his location. Meanwhile, Jakob and Otto have Cipher held captive at their base. She reveals that the second half of the Aries device is hidden in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Resurrection in Tokyo
In Tokyo, Letty and Mia follow a clue from a postcard Han sent before his apparent death—a picture of Mexico, his "Old West." They locate a hidden apartment and find a young woman named Elle. They are ambushed by Otto’s agents, but a sniper intervenes to save them. The shooter is revealed to be Han, alive and well. He explains that Gisele Yashar was a CIA operative, and after her death, Mr. Nobody recruited him to protect Elle, whose DNA is the biometric key to activating Project Aries. To keep Elle safe from rogue agents, Mr. Nobody helped Han fake his death at the hands of Deckard Shaw.
Chaos in Edinburgh
The team converges in Edinburgh to stop Jakob from acquiring the second Aries component. Jakob uses a massive electromagnet to disrupt security systems and steal the device. A chaotic chase ensues across the city’s rooftops and streets. Dom spots Jakob zip-lining between buildings and intercepts him, leading to a brutal brawl. Roman and Tej manage to secure the electromagnet, and Ramsey commandeers the truck carrying it. Using the magnet to manipulate traffic, Ramsey runs Jakob’s getaway car off the road, allowing the team to capture him and retrieve the second device.
The True Story
Back at the bunker, Jakob is imprisoned. However, Otto tracks their location and launches an assault, freeing Jakob and recapturing the Aries device along with Elle. Before leaving, Jakob reveals the devastating truth about their father's death. Jack Toretto was in deep debt and intended to throw the race to save his family from financial ruin. He had instructed Jakob to tamper with the fuel line to cause a mechanical failure, not a crash. The explosion was an accident, and Jakob has been carrying the guilt of his father's request and death ever since. Stunned by the revelation that he had wrongly blamed his brother for murder, Dom is trapped as the bunker collapses. He nearly drowns in a sea lock but is saved by Letty. Realizing Jakob and Otto now have everything they need to activate Aries, Dom declares they must go "full force" to stop them.
The Armadillo Run
Otto and Jakob head to Tbilisi, Georgia, to upload the Aries program to a satellite. They transport the device inside a massive, armored 16-wheeler known as the "Armadillo." Dom, Letty, Mia, Ramsey, and Han give chase in a convoy of magnetic cars. Meanwhile, Tej and Roman use the rocket-powered Fiero to launch themselves into orbit to destroy the satellite directly. During the chase, Otto betrays Jakob, revealing he has allied with Cipher, and throws Jakob off the speeding truck. Dom and Mia save their brother, and for the first time in decades, the Toretto siblings fight on the same side. Jakob enters the fight, helping Dom and Ramsey gain access to the Armadillo.
Space and Reconciliation
In orbit, Tej and Roman successfully ram the satellite, destroying it just before the Aries upload completes. On the ground, the Armadillo is neutralized, but Cipher, piloting a jet remotely, attempts to bomb the truck to kill Dom. Dom maneuvers the truck to flip mid-air, smashing it into Cipher’s drone jet and destroying it. Cipher disconnects from her simulator in frustration, having failed once again. In the aftermath, Dom hands Jakob the keys to his Charger—a "10-second car"—giving him a second chance just as Brian O’Conner once did for him. Jakob accepts the gesture of forgiveness and escapes before the authorities arrive.
Family Reunion
The team celebrates their victory with a barbecue at the Toretto house in Los Angeles. The family is expanding; Han is reunited with Sean, Twinkie, and Earl, and introduces them to Elle. Santos arrives to update Mia on Leo’s restaurant business. As they prepare to say grace, Dom notes an empty chair at the table. Just then, a familiar blue Nissan Skyline pulls into the driveway, signaling the arrival of Brian O’Conner.
Post-Credits
In a post-credits scene, Deckard Shaw is seen training on a punching bag in his hideout. When he unzips the bag, a man falls out, revealing Deckard had been interrogating him for information. A knock at the door interrupts him. Deckard opens it to find Han standing there, leaving him in visible shock at seeing the man he thought he had killed.
