The Plot

Spoiler Alert: The following section contains a complete plot summary for Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), including the ending and major plot twists.

The Interview at the Sacred Timeline

In the year 2018, Wade Wilson uses Cable’s time-traveling device to arrive at the Sacred Timeline, seeking a meeting with Happy Hogan at the Avengers Compound. Desperate to find a proper use for his abilities and get his chaotic life together, Wilson applies to join the Avengers. However, the interview does not go as planned. Hogan is unimpressed, citing Wilson’s well-documented problems with authority and teamwork. He rejects Wilson, telling him that a person does not join the Avengers because they need the team, but because the team needs them. Crushed by the rejection, Wilson returns to his own universe, quits his life as the mercenary Deadpool, and attempts a civilian life working as a car salesman at Drive Max. During this period of stagnation, his relationship with Vanessa Carlysle falls apart, and she breaks up with him.

The Birthday Party and the TVA

Six years later, Wilson is navigating a mundane existence. His friends throw him a surprise birthday party at his apartment, where he humbly thanks everyone for putting up with him over the years. The celebration is abruptly interrupted when agents from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) knock on his door. Expecting a stripper, Wilson is instead forcibly captured and transported to the TVA headquarters. There, he meets Mr. Paradox, a rogue agent acting outside the organization's main hierarchy.

The Anchor Being and the Time Ripper

Paradox offers Wilson a chance to leave his dying timeline and join the Sacred Timeline with the Avengers, fulfilling his dream of a proper Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Wilson is ecstatic, suiting up as Deadpool once again and breaking the fourth wall to celebrate. However, his excitement is short-lived when Paradox reveals the dark truth: Wilson's home universe is deteriorating because it has lost its "Anchor Being"—the Wolverine who died protecting X-23 (Laura) in 2029. Paradox explains that without this Anchor Being, the reality is slowly unraveling. Furthermore, Paradox expresses his dissatisfaction with the TVA's current efficient management and reveals his plan to use a device called the "Time Ripper" to mercy-kill Wilson's universe immediately rather than wait for its natural death.

Digging Up the Past

Horrified that he is about to lose his home, Vanessa, and his friends, Deadpool steals a TemPad and goes rogue. He travels to the grave of the Anchor Being Wolverine in North Dakota, hoping to find him alive or capable of regeneration. He exhumes the grave, only to find that Logan is completely and irrevocably dead, reducing the hero to an Adamantium skeleton. When TVA Minutemen arrive to apprehend him, Deadpool uses the skeleton as a makeshift weapon to slaughter them. Realizing he needs a replacement Anchor Being, Deadpool travels across the Multiverse, encountering various Wolverine variants. Most are hostile, comically short, or otherwise unsuitable. Eventually, he finds a despondent Wolverine at a bar in Canada. This variant is disinterested, but after getting too drunk to fight, he passes out, allowing Deadpool to drag him back to the TVA.

Banished to the Void

Deadpool presents the unconscious Wolverine to Paradox, believing he has saved his universe. Paradox merely laughs, explaining that replacing an Anchor Being is impossible and that Deadpool has managed to retrieve the "worst Wolverine" in the entire Multiverse—one who let his entire world down. Paradox reveals he is acting without authorization but proceeds to prune both Deadpool and Wolverine, sending them to the Void. Upon waking in the wasteland, Wolverine realizes he has been duped and attacks Deadpool. The two engage in a brutal fight until Deadpool manages to pause the violence by lying, claiming that the TVA can fix Wolverine's tragic past if they work together to escape.

Mad Max in the Wasteland

Begrudgingly agreeing to the truce, Wolverine joins Deadpool as they wander the Void. They soon encounter a hooded figure whom Deadpool assumes is Captain America. The figure reveals himself to be Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four. Before they can get acquainted, they are ambushed by a group of rogue scavengers led by Sabretooth. While Pyro uses his abilities to depower Johnny Storm, Wolverine faces off against his longtime nemesis, Sabretooth, and kills him. Despite the victory, Pyro and Toad manage to capture the heroes, transporting them and a captured Minuteman to their base—a fortress built inside the giant, hollowed-out corpse of Ant-Man.

Meeting Cassandra Nova

Inside the base, the group is introduced to Cassandra Nova, the twin sister of Charles Xavier. Banished to the Void by the TVA as an infant, she now rules the wasteland with telekinetic tyranny. In a bid to save himself, Deadpool claims that during their transport, Johnny Storm was repeatedly insulting Nova. Despite Johnny's desperate denials, Nova believes the lies and brutally executes him by telekinetically skinning him alive. She then turns her attention to the others, incapacitating Wolverine and forcefully invading Deadpool’s mind. She hijacks his memories of Vanessa Carlysle to demoralize him, telling him he will always be a "nobody." Deadpool and Wolverine manage to recover and attack her, but she effortlessly brushes them aside, casting them out to be devoured by the cloud-beast Alioth. They narrowly manage to escape the creature's wrath.

The Road Trip and the Brawl

Determined to find the Resistance that Johnny Storm mentioned, the duo sets off toward the Void's borderlands. Along the way, Deadpool relentlessly nags Wolverine about why he wears the X-Men suit if he disgraced it. They encounter a Deadpool variant named "Nicepool" and his dog, "Dogpool." Despite Wade's irrational hatred of the unscarred, polite Nicepool, the variant lends them a Honda Odyssey to travel the borderlands. During the drive, the conversation turns volatile when Deadpool accidentally admits that he made an "educated wish" regarding the TVA's ability to fix Wolverine's past, rather than having a guarantee. Enraged by the deception, Wolverine lashes out. The argument escalates into a bloody, exhaustively long brawl inside the car until both are too tired to move. As they lay unconscious, a mysterious figure drives the car to the Hero Hideout.

The Resistance

Waking up in a hidden lair, Deadpool and Wolverine meet the Resistance: Elektra, Blade, and Gambit, led by X-23 (Laura), who had been pruned years prior. Deadpool rallies the group, convincing them to team up to take down Cassandra Nova and avenge Johnny Storm—conveniently leaving out his role in Johnny's death. Wolverine, cynical and defeated, scoffs at the plan and refuses to join. Laura approaches him privately, and Wolverine confesses his shame: in his universe, he went out drinking one night, and while he was gone, anti-mutant humans slaughtered the X-Men. Consumed by guilt, he wears the yellow suit as a penance for not being there when they needed him. Laura comforts him, assuring him that despite his past, he is a good man at heart.

Siege on the Ant-Man Corpse

While the heroes prepare, Pyro secretly tracks them down and strikes a deal with Paradox via a communication device. Paradox decides Cassandra Nova has become a liability and orders Pyro to eliminate her. Back at the hideout, Wolverine has a change of heart and joins the Resistance. They storm Nova's base, aiming to steal Juggernaut’s helmet to block her psychic powers. During the chaos, Nova knocks Deadpool out and invades Wolverine's mind again, urging him to embrace his trauma and feral instincts. Wolverine rejects her influence. Deadpool awakens and manages to place Juggernaut’s helmet—provided by Laura—onto Nova’s head, stripping her of her powers. Suddenly, Pyro shoots Nova, intending to kill her. Wolverine shouts at Deadpool to remove the helmet and save her, insisting that the Charles Xavier he knew would never let them execute a defenseless enemy.

Escape and Betrayal

Deadpool removes the helmet, saving Nova. In gratitude, she uses a Sling Ring equipped with the Time and Reality Stones to open an inter-dimensional portal back to Deadpool’s timeline, allowing them to escape just as Alioth consumes her base. Before leaving, Nova forces Pyro to confess his betrayal on Paradox’s orders, then executes him. Deadpool and Wolverine jump through the portal, arriving on Earth-10005. They find Paradox finishing the preparations for the Time Ripper. However, Cassandra Nova follows them through the portal. Having learned of Paradox's treachery, she declares her intent to hijack the Time Ripper herself. Her new plan is to shred the entire Multiverse down to nothing, leaving only the Void she loves. She captures Paradox and summons an army of Deadpool variants—the Deadpool Corps—to slaughter the heroes.

The Deadpool Corps and the Time Ripper

Deadpool and Wolverine engage in a massive, violent battle against the horde of regenerating Deadpool variants. The fighting seems endless until Peter Wisdom arrives in his costume. The Deadpool variants, who all possess a deep, inherent love for "Peter," immediately cease hostilities. Seizing the distraction, Deadpool and Wolverine rush to the Time Ripper. Paradox informs them that Nova has already seized control of the machine and the matter/anti-matter flow is beginning to unravel reality. He explains that the only way to stop it is to short-circuit the matter and anti-matter feeds by physically connecting them, a feat that will destroy the bridge and atomize whoever is acting as the conduit, even with a healing factor.

The Sacrifice

Wolverine volunteers, claiming he has nothing left to live for and wants to die with purpose. Deadpool, refusing to let Logan die, locks him outside the chamber and prepares to sacrifice himself to save Vanessa and his friends. As Deadpool struggles to connect the feeds, the energy begins to tear him apart. Wolverine smashes his way into the chamber, grabbing Deadpool’s hand. Together, they channel the immense energy, sharing the burden. The resulting feedback loop overloads the Time Ripper, destroying the machine and vaporizing Cassandra Nova, effectively saving the Multiverse.

Restoration and Shawarma

Hunter B-15 and the TVA leadership arrive to investigate the surge. Paradox attempts to blame the entire incident on the now-deceased Nova while feigning mourning for the heroes. However, Deadpool and Wolverine emerge from the smoke, having survived by sharing the energy load. B-15 orders Paradox's arrest. Deadpool asks B-15 to help their friends in the Void and to fix Wolverine’s home reality. B-15 promises to help the Resistance members but explains that Wolverine’s past cannot be changed; his history is what shaped him into the man who just saved the Multiverse. Accepting this, Wilson and Logan sit down for shawarma. They are reunited with Dogpool, as Nicepool was killed during the earlier battle.

Reunion

Wilson takes Logan and Dogpool back to his apartment, where he introduces them to Blind Al. Later, he hosts a gathering with all his friends, including the newly returned X-23. The atmosphere is warm and celebratory. Logan, seeing the love surrounding Wilson, encourages him to make things right with Vanessa. Taking the advice, Wilson approaches her, and they rekindle their relationship.

Post-Credits: Clearing the Name

In a post-credits scene, Deadpool returns to the TVA surveillance room. To prove to the audience that he wasn't lying earlier, he pulls up the archival footage of the transport vehicle in the Void. The video clearly shows Johnny Storm delivering a monologue filled with vile, creative insults directed at Cassandra Nova, proving that Deadpool had quoted him verbatim and was not responsible for getting him killed.
