The Plot
The Fate of Claire
The narrative begins three years prior to the current events. A woman named Claire stops for the night at a secluded motel, where she is checked in by a receptionist named Shelly, who is later revealed to be the masked killer known as Pin-Up Girl. After settling into her room, Claire’s peace is shattered by a persistent knocking at the door and a voice asking the ominous question, "Is Tamara here?" Shortly after this disturbance, The Strangers break in and abduct her. In her final moments, a terrified Claire asks Pin-Up Girl why they are doing this to her. The killer simply replies, "Because you were here," before stabbing Claire to death. Standing over the brutalized body, Pin-Up Girl and Scarecrow share an intimate moment, "kissing" through their masks.
Survival and Accusations
Returning to the immediate aftermath of the previous film's cliffhanger, Maya survives the ambulance crash and desperately hides from the approaching Scarecrow and Dollface. She watches from the shadows as the killers retrieve Shelly’s lifeless body, load it into their truck, and drive away. Alone and injured, Maya makes her way to a nearby church, where she encounters a man named Gregory. The atmosphere is tense as Gregory pours a drink to Shelly’s memory and offers Maya a shot to honor her deceased boyfriend, Ryan. The conversation takes a dark turn when Gregory reveals that The Strangers killed his friends as well, but then coldly accuses Maya of being the one who killed Shelly. Maya insists she didn’t mean to do it, but Gregory remains convinced of her guilt.
A Failed Escape
Maya is eventually discovered by Sheriff Rotter, who offers to escort her to safety. However, Maya is rightfully suspicious of his intentions. Seizing a moment of opportunity when Rotter exits the vehicle, she steals his van and speeds off. Her escape is short-lived; distracted while driving, she crashes the van into a tree. Stumbling out of the wreckage, dazed and vulnerable, she is quickly recaptured by Scarecrow and Dollface. They throw her into the back of their truck, forcing her to lie next to Shelly’s corpse as they transport her back into the heart of their nightmare.
Sins of the Father
A flashback reveals the deep-rooted corruption in Venus. Sheriff Rotter is revealed to be Gregory’s father. Years ago, he testified in court when Gregory was on trial for the murder of a woman named Tamara, successfully covering for his son to maintain custody and keep him out of prison. Rotter has spent years trying to conceal the murderous habits of Gregory and Shelly, but he was unable to stop them from targeting innocent visitors passing through town. In one instance, Gregory and Shelly brutally axe-murder a man and abandon his body in the woods, leaving Rotter to clean up their mess and manage the fallout.
The Search for Maya
Meanwhile, Maya’s sister Debbie, her husband Howard, and their friend Marcus arrive at the local diner in Venus. Knowing that Ryan has been murdered and Maya is missing, they begin asking the locals for information. The town's complicity is hinted at when a waitress describes the events surrounding Maya as merely "unfortunate" and chillingly informs Debbie that this is not the first time visitors to Venus have vanished without a trace.
Rituals of the Strangers
Back at the killers' hideout, Scarecrow and Dollface dispose of Shelly’s body by feeding it through a wood chipper. Turning their attention to their captive, Dollface forcibly tattoos a smiley face onto Maya’s skin, identical to the one Shelly had, marking her as part of their twisted legacy. Another flashback transports the story to 12 years earlier, showing a teenage Shelly and Gregory loitering at a gas station, scouting for victims. Shelly is harassed by a sleazy man inside the shop, whose girlfriend, Jasmine, is visibly upset because he broke his promise not to hit on other girls.
Shelly and Gregory select the couple as their targets and follow them to a motel. Shelly performs the signature "Is Tamara here?" routine before Gregory smashes through the door. To their shock, they find that Jasmine has already murdered her boyfriend in a fit of rage. Recognizing a kindred spirit, Jasmine joins Shelly and Gregory, completing the trio by becoming the killer known as Dollface.
Deadly Complicity
In the present, Sheriff Rotter is at the coroner’s office with his deputy, Tommy Walters, examining the bodies of The Strangers' latest victims. When Tommy begins to piece together the evidence and voices his suspicion that Rotter is involved in the cover-up, the sheriff reacts with lethal force, grabbing a drill and driving it into Tommy’s head to silence him permanently.
Elsewhere, the psychological torture of Maya escalates. Scarecrow forces her to don the Pin-Up Girl mask and aggressively kisses her. He and Dollface then drag Maya along to stalk a new couple, Mike and Carrie, at a motel. Scarecrow commands Maya to kill one of them, but she refuses. In response, Scarecrow hacks Mike to death with his axe. As Dollface watches the carnage, Maya seizes the moment, grabbing a machete and impaling Dollface. In a frenzy of survival instinct, Maya smashes Dollface's head against the floor repeatedly, killing her. Scarecrow, undeterred, grabs Maya’s hands and physically forces her to impale Carrie through the stomach, whispering to ask if the kill felt good.
Total Loss
Debbie, Howard, and Marcus follow Sheriff Rotter, believing he might lead them to Maya. The pursuit ends in tragedy when Rotter ambushes Marcus in a building and shoots him to death. Simultaneously, Scarecrow attacks Debbie and Howard, who are sheltering in a trailer. He uses his truck to ram the trailer before storming inside and hacking Howard to death with his axe. He then drags Debbie out of the wreckage and brutally stabs her to death right in front of Maya, who is too traumatized to do anything but watch in quiet shock. Scarecrow and Rotter collect Dollface’s body and depart, leaving Maya alone with her sister's corpse and the truck.
The End of the Line
Maya initially begins to drive away from Venus, but a surge of resolve causes her to have a change of heart. She turns the vehicle around, determined to end the Rotter family's reign of terror. She locates Rotter’s hideout, arms herself with a shotgun, and blasts the corrupt sheriff to death. She then moves deeper into the house, where she finds Scarecrow in a room featuring a shrine dedicated to Shelly.
Scarecrow removes his mask, confirming his identity as Gregory. Maya employs a ruse, tricking Gregory into believing she wants to join him out of love. As he lowers his guard, she stabs him unexpectedly. To ensure he stays down, she slams an axe into his chest, finally killing him.
A Dark Transformation
The film concludes with a haunting image of Maya walking alone through the woods. She clutches Scarecrow’s mask in her hand, forever changed by the violence she has endured and the violence she was forced to commit.
